Ying-Ying Shiue, LPCC

Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor
LPCC 11195

About Me:

Picture
I am a licensed professional clinical counselor (LPCC 11195) and have always been passionate about working with people and being in the helping profession. I was born and raised in Massachusetts and received my bachelor’s degree in psychology from Boston University. After graduation, I worked for 3 years tutoring, managing, and directing a variety of children and youth programs. Afterwards, I took a gap year to travel and reconnect with my cultural roots in Asia. During that time, I was able to reflect on my prior experiences and felt an increasing drive to pursue counseling. In 2015, I road tripped across the country to attend the University of San Diego. There, I received a Master of Arts in Counseling with a specialization in School Counseling with LPCC eligibility. As a counselor, I’ve worked in a wide range of settings, including school, after school, community, nonprofit, juvenile justice, and private practice, serving children, youth, and families.

Who I am as a therapist:

My style as a therapist is client-centered and collaborative. I believe in working together to achieve common goals and to help you find success. Progress is possible! With a strengths-based approach, you and I will create a safe space for you to work towards growth. I am not afraid to find solutions together and say “Well, that didn’t work. Let’s try something else.” Understanding the uniqueness of each client, I strive to develop a plan that yields great success for every individual. What’s most important to me is finding what works best for you! The best kind of work is work that doesn’t feel like work, but it’s fun and something to look forward to. Relationships are often the same, and I believe that the therapeutic relationship should reflect that. The relationships I build with my clients matter and are made to have a lasting impact.

Why I love what I do:

It takes vulnerability and authenticity and trust to let someone into your life. I value that not only of my clients, but of myself. Being able to hear and share in your story and witness you in your journey is my joy and passion. It’s the realness of daily life and the humanness of people that keeps me interested in my work. The failures, the triumphs, the sadness, the pains, the laughable moments, the struggles, the hard times, the fun ones, the beauty and all the messiness that comes with just living life! Walking together in all of life’s moments, both good and bad, is what LIVING life is all about. Your voice and your story are valuable, so let’s navigate this journey of life and thrive together!
“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.” – Leo Buscaglia
