Our Approach to Therapy for Adults

At Thrive, we individualize treatment to match your current needs. Though we tend to be focused on building insight and personal growth, if you prefer a more directive or solution focused style, we will work with you in that way. Our typical focus is on building insight and awareness. This focus in treatment is purposeful and comes from the belief that many of our presenting issues arise from our tendency to:
  • Numb and/or avoid our emotions,
  • Get quick solutions for the resulting problems
  • Our struggle managing transitions and challenges in our lives
Many of these issues are deeply rooted in our current culture which emphasizes:
  • Being "strong" (denying feelings)
  • Being "perfect" (not being allowed to struggle, which is natural)
  • Presenting a strong, perfect image to the world (which leads to isolation from others)
We believe there is deep healing in the ability to truly be seen and accepted for who we are and that once this happens, our symptoms reduce as well. As such, while we draw on techniques from different schools of therapy (Cognitive Therapy, Motivational Interviewing), we utilize most frequently a more interpersonal, supportive, and humanistic approach in therapy.
