  • List of Basic Parenting Suggestions from PsychCentral
  • Parents.com - A helpful resource for information and support through their online community and forum
  • Supernanny online parenting resources
  • A Basic List of Parenting Advice from scarymommy.com - A down to earth listing of tips
  • Love and Logic - an excellent resource for parenting with love and logic
  • Article: "Are We Raising a Generation of Helpless Kids" (Mickey Goodman) - Excellent discussion of the problems related to raising children without allowing them to fall, fail, and fear, which is essential in building feelings of self-efficacy, perseverance, and mental toughness of overcoming adversity
  • Article: "The Strong Willed Child" - I think I particularly enjoy this article and topic because I was and still am pretty strong willed!  In any case, this article gives helpful tips and suggestions as to how to parent a strong willed child most effectively.
  • Explanation of "Closet Listening" by positive discipline.com - This is a technique I use often in therapy as I believe that if we listen to the small things for a child, they will be more likely to tell us the big things that are hard to talk about.
  • Article: "Influencing Rather Than Controlling Your Teen" (Holly Brown, LMFT) - Wonderful article discussing ways to talk to your teen more effectively
  • Article: "Positive Parenting: How to Follow Through With Limits" (Positive Parenting Connection) - A fantastic overview of setting limits firmly and kindly.
  • Article: "Mindful Parenting: Practicing Kindness" (Carla Naumburg) - An honest perspective on parenting with kindness through a woman's journey to improve as a parent.

  • Article: "A Week of No Time-Outs" (Meg Conley) - A fascinating perspective on connecting more with your child when they are having their most difficult moments, rather than using the typical time-out strategy. As I say quite often and as I know I felt when I was a "difficult child", a little empathy goes a long way!
  • Article: "The Day I Stopped Saying 'Hurry Up'" (Rachel Macy Stafford) - An excellent reminder to all of us to enjoy the present moment and stay mindful of what is going on around us!
  • Article: "Modern Moms Looking for Perfection in all the Wrong Places" (Karol Markowicz) - Interesting perspective about the pressure on moms to be perfect in every way
